While South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus is registered as a charity, we also love to support our local community. Each year, we carefully select a charity to support in a variety of ways. In 2022, we raised £1,368.50 to support Trans Aid Cymru, which aims to provide mutual aid assistance to transgender, non-binary, and intersex (TIN) people.

During this year’s AGM, our members voted to support the The Choir With No Name, a charity that supports choirs and singing groups for people who are experiencing or have experienced homelessness. The Charity shares our belief that music has the power to bring people from all walks of life together, regardless of their background or situation. In October 2022 they launched a new choir in Cardiff and we are excited to be supporting them as they get established.

The Importance of Music for Homeless People

Homelessness affects many individuals and families around the world. It’s an isolating and stressful issue that can be tough to navigate. However, the Choir with No Name is helping to address this problem. By bringing people together to create music, they provide a sense of community, belonging, and purpose. Singing can be therapeutic, allowing people to express their emotions and connect with others in a safe and supportive environment.

If you’re passionate about music and want to make a difference in the lives of homeless people, there are many ways you can support the Choir with No Name. Donating money is always a good option, as it allows the charity to fund their choirs, provide resources, and cover operating costs. You can also volunteer your time, whether it’s helping out at fundraising events, assisting with choir rehearsals, or spreading the word about the charity on social media. Finally, you can attend one of their concerts or performances, which are always a joyous and uplifting experience.
